Our Intentions for 2017

By UrbanRemedy

The beginning of a new year is always a time of reflection and re-focus for all of us at Urban Remedy. We believe in the power of intention and, even more, we’re committed to turning our intentions into action. In 2017, we’ll be guided by three intentions, each closely connected to our mission of making food that is healing to people and the planet:

  1. Reduce food waste.
Food waste is a global problem, with one-third of all food grown going to waste. During 2016, Urban Remedy processed over 2 million pounds of produce in our Richmond, California facility. We kept the high quality, fiber-rich byproducts out of a landfill by using them in some of our most popular products, Beet Apple Granola and Carrot-Curry Crackers, and sending the remainder to local pig and chicken farmers to feed their livestock. For 2017, we have partnered with the Robert Mondavi Institute for Food & Wine Science on the “End Food Waste” initiative. A student-led team will develop three delicious, affordable, marketable food products from fruit and vegetable pulp leftover from our juicing process. During the coming months, we will share stories of the team’s progress and creations.

  2. Become a more sustainable company.
We are currently investing in overhauling all of our product packaging and shipping materials to make them more environmentally friendly. In the coming months, we will replace our current plastic bottles and food containers (a mix of virgin PET and other materials) with recycled PET packaging, keeping plastic out of the landfill and reducing our overall carbon footprint.

  3. Deepen our commitment to our mission
Urban Remedy’s mission is to reimagine our food system and teach the world that food is healing. As part of that, we educate our customers and community about what they’re eating and the connection between ingredients and health benefits. This deepens their overall connection to food and empowers them to be their best.In 2017, we will go beyond food and launch a new holistic cleanse program to empower people to live a healthy lifestyle. Our new Metta-Morphosis program is a first-of-its-kind cleanse for the mind, body, and spirit. It’s rooted in an organic food and juice meal plan and supported by expert instruction in meditation and movement. The final component is an online community where program participants can interact with each other along with world-renowned wellness experts for support before, during and after the program.
