There's a reason yoga and its variations have been practiced in the East for over 5,000 years. The benefits are powerful and manifold. On the physical level, yoga helps improve balance, strength and flexibility. Internally, it improves organ function and circulation.
From a mental standpoint, yoga is an effective means to combat stress and quiet the mind. Because the breath is central to a focused yoga practice, one can expect a calming effect that is also deeply cleansing in a more vigorous physical practice.
Finally, and most importanty, yoga is a spiritual discipline that teaches us mindfulness. Through a regular yoga practice, we learn to live with intention, to honor our bodies and the world around us. We gain a greater understanding of balance, equanimity and we see the profound results blossom not only in the yoga studio, but in our everyday lives.
In short, yoga is the perfect compliment to a cleanse because it deepens the experience of going within and shedding the excesses of our lives.
